Teaching Blog Expo

I know what I'm doing on November 12th!  I can see it now... pajamas, coffee, and my favorite teachers teaching me all of their wise words and helpful tips.  OK, I may be a tad bit more excited than the average person may be but, hey, I gotta be me.  :-)

Got Moolah?

I do something called Moffitt Moolah in my classroom that the students can earn as a positive behavior incentive.  

I’ve got Moffitt Moolah everywhere; I find it in the laundry, it’s in the bathroom, under the dining room table…  It has literally taken over my life.  Last week, our staff at school decided to have a potluck on our early release day.  I had to go to the grocery store to buy some grub for my dish and what did I grab out of my purse to try to pay for the bounty?? Moffitt Moolah! The cashier just looked at me, completely dead pan and said “Ma’am, we don’t accept fake money here.”  She wasn’t too amused or interested in my explanation so I skedaddled out of there.  Oh the joys of teaching!

Little Hooters...

I made these cupcakes for one of my classes because they got a 71% average on their math benchmark. Can't really take credit because I got the idea from Pinterest, but I'm just glad that I finally have a celebratory reason to make them!  You can't really bake cupcakes because it's International Moment of Frustration Scream Day. By the way, that's a totally legit holiday occurring tomorrow, October 12th.  Feel free to scream all day lo-ong!

 

Pinterest Strikes Again

For those of you that don’t know me, let me start off this post by warning you that I am a Pinterest freak.  I found this bad boy of an idea about a month ago.  Yes, I made my very own scratcher tickets. 

 

I know these aren’t quite as exciting as real lotto tickets, however, I felt like a celebrity the day that I introduced these to my students.  All you need is some silver paint, dishwashing soap (I know, it’s weird but it works), cardstock, and clear plastic contact paper.

Columbus and Goo?

No school on Monday!  Thanks Columbus, you're the best.  This week I am attempting to make "goo" with my 5th graders as part of our Matter Unit.  Being a math and science teacher, I sadly don't get to science as much as I would like, so this will definitely be an adventure!   I am posting my goo lab activity sheet that will go with it.  I adapted it from Engaging Lessons. Nothing says Columbus Day like some slime... right?
