Student Led Conferences

Help my fellow bloggers! I am doing student led conferences for the first time and I need some good ideas. Have any of you ever done them before? Any tips or helpful hints?  Thanks!

  1. Sure - I prefer student-led, honestly, and at the end, they come over to me and I tell them anything I think may have been left out :)

I usually prepare a letter from the student to their parents describing what they've learned and how they think they're doing in different areas. We leave things on top of their desks (notebooks, etc.) that they should show their parents, and then I chart the things (like a checklist) they need to show their parents and talk about and leave the chart up for that evening.

Kids want their parents to think they're doing amazingly well, so the kid will usually take the time to show their parents EVERYthing, if they think the parent wants to see it. That's been my experience anyway.

  4. I enjoy student-led conferences way more as well. I usually put together centres for the students with different activities they can do with their families (game/project on the smartboard, book talk about the novel we were reading, portfolio, goal setting, etc.). Hope that helps!
